The grandest website

Spaugur was originally founded to house the software products we wanted to build ourselves. Over time, though, we started taking on web projects for various clients, mostly foreign companies and before we knew it we had a decent portfolio of work behind us. At the time we were young, ambitious and probably a little too self-assured. So when we decided to focus more on the Icelandic market, the most logical next step, in our minds, was to build what we considered to be the coolest company website in the country. It maybe wasn't the most modest goal in the world, but it captures pretty well the mindset we had back then. The site was originally built in 2024 and has since been changed and improved as the company has evolved. Some of the original design has stood the test of time, some of it hasn't at all, but the site is a good illustration of how both the company and we ourselves have grown since the project began.

My role

I handled designing the site in Figma at the start, while my co-founder, Kría Elínarbur, did the initial frontend development. As time went on, I took over the changes, additions and ongoing development of the site's frontend myself.

What would I have done differently?

Honestly, I wouldn't have done anything differently. The site reached the goals we set for ourselves, even if it maybe never became “Iceland's coolest website.” It was incredibly fun to design and build, and it gave me a great opportunity to experiment with different ideas, design styles and implementations. For me, that's a big part of the project's value.
